Volunteer Training and Engagement
We believe in the power of volunteers, and FirstServe offers a variety of ways for people to discover and utilize their gifts in service to others. Training modules are available at various times of year.
Monday Night Meals
Through this cooperative program with First Lutheran and St. John Lutheran congregations, each week volunteers prepare and serve more than 100 nutritious dinners for homeless and needy neighbors in the South Bay. Men, women and children receive good food and friendship every Monday evening.
Activating Elders (Prime Timers)
This gathering for people 55+ takes place on the First Wednesday of each month at 11:30am on the campus of First Lutheran Church. A nutritious lunch is provided, and area civic and education groups offer informative presentations on issues of importance to elders. Recent presentations have included home safety, home caregivers, health care abuse, accessing local resources, and nutrition. Prime Timers is a great way to meet new friends, learn strategies for living, and have fun!

Join us for this safe, effective and relaxing method for seniors to strengthen functional muscle groups, on the First Wed. each month at 1:30pm

First Friends
These monthly gatherings offer a time of learning and fun for special-needs adults in the South Bay. Seasonal crafts, service projects and great food are shared as we grow in fellowship as people of joy and purpose.
First Kids: Youth Creative Arts
Through this program, young people discover their creative and performing arts abilities in an encouraging and exciting learning environment. Through our partnership with First Lutheran School, dozens of children each year experience theatre arts, dance, music and other creative expressions.
Hope Circle: Support Community
This monthly program assists people struggling with emotional issues such as grief and loss. Participants discover strategies for dealing with life’s crises and downturns, through educational presentations, as well as through group conversation and sharing. Third Thursdays 6:30-7:30pm
