Why not take in a Virtual Event?
From the Executive Director
Dear Friends of FirstServe,
Welcome to our web presence, as we continue to offer
hope, healing and support for our South Bay neighbors.
Since its inception in 2005, FirstServe Community
Services has reached out in love and care for people of
every age and stage of life, offering a variety of local
human service programs. Our watchword for all that we do is “inspiring people, transforming lives, and we welcome you to learn more about our various programs and initiatives to improve the lives of the many whom we serve each and every day.
The year just past has been a time of unprecedented challenge for people all across our world, and certainly the South Bay has been affected in profound and substantial ways as well. We stand in solidarity with those who have lost relatives and friends to the COVID-19 virus. We also stand with those on the front lines of human service – from healthcare and public safety workers to the many who each day provide needed services to our neighbors.
As of this writing, we’re increasing our on-campus gatherings on the First Lutheran Church and School campus in Torrance, which provides space for a number of our FirstServe programs and activities. We’ve already returned to in-person programs, following current health orders and protocols, as well as offering programs through online connections. Through it all, we’re taking special precautions for the safety of those in our care.
I’m blessed to report that our programs for elders, underserved neighbors, counselees, children and youth have been offered safely and responsibly during the pandemic period, and we are grateful to the many who have helped us continue our human service mission during this challenging time.
We continue to be committed to ensuring the health and safety of all FirstServe program participants. Please stay tuned for more information on the resumption of on-campus programs and activities as we move through Summer and into Fall.
FirstServe relies on the generous partnership of allies and underwriters, and we are grateful to all who continue to remember us through gifts of support. Your sustaining partnership allows us to continue our mission of serving today, and as we expand our programs in the future.
Please accept my thanks for many ways you join us to inspire people and transform lives through the work of our organization. We are blessed to have you as partners!
With You in Hope and Service,
The Rev. Dr. William L. Hurst
